B2+ / C1 programme · Central London
Advanced English Course London — B2+/C1 Programme
Advanced doesn't mean finished.
Most people who reach B2+ English recognise the feeling: the language is there, but it doesn't always work in the way they want it to. They can communicate successfully, but not always with the precision, register, spontaneity or naturalness they need. Moving towards C1 is not simply about learning more grammar or vocabulary. It is about bringing everything together: accuracy, fluency, range and confidence. ELIC's advanced English course in Central London is designed for learners making that transition — adults who already speak English well, but know they could speak it significantly better.

What is the difference between B2+ and C1 English?
B2+ means you communicate clearly in most situations — but you notice the gaps. Under pressure, in fast conversation, in professional contexts, the language feels effortful. Words don't always come. Register slips. Precision fails. At C1, these difficulties become less frequent: you can express yourself with greater fluency, precision and spontaneity, and adapt your English more effectively to different situations. The distance between B2+ and C1 is not dramatic — but crossing it changes everything about how you experience the language.
| At B2+ you can… | At C1 you can… |
|---|---|
| Communicate in most familiar situations | Express ideas in any situation, familiar or unfamiliar |
| Understand most of what you read and hear | Understand implicit meaning, irony and subtext |
| Make your point — but sometimes struggle with precision | Say exactly what you mean, clearly and naturally |
| Use a reasonable vocabulary range | Use a wide vocabulary with strong register control |
| Hold a conversation with some effort | Sustain conversation with greater ease and confidence |
The programme
What the ELIC programme develops
Reaching C1 is not about studying grammar rules or memorising vocabulary lists. It is about developing an integrated command of the language — where speaking, listening, reading and writing work together and reinforce each other. The ELIC programme works on six interconnected areas simultaneously, through real, meaningful use of English.
01
Precision and accuracy
Grammar work at C1 is not about learning new structures — it is about using the ones you know consistently and precisely. Lessons address specific patterns advanced learners still struggle with: aspect, conditionals, cohesion, collocation.
02
Vocabulary and register
C1 English requires knowing not just what a word means, but when to use it, what it implies, and how it sounds in context. The programme builds sophisticated vocabulary through reading, discussion and deliberate use.
03
Fluency and spontaneity
Fluency is not speed — it is ease. The ability to sustain conversation without searching, hesitating or losing register. Developed through extended speaking practice in every session.
04
Listening and comprehension
Understanding fast, natural, spontaneous English — including subtext and implicit meaning — is one of the hardest C1 skills to develop. Lessons use authentic materials at natural speed.
05
Pronunciation and spoken clarity
At advanced level, pronunciation is about rhythm, connected speech and sounding natural. Integrated throughout the programme — not taught as a separate module.
06
English beyond the classroom
Students use English throughout their time in London — in cafés, museums, markets, on public transport, in conversation. This is not supplementary; it is central to the ELIC approach.
Who it's for
Who this course is for
The ELIC programme is for adult learners — aged 18 and above — who are at approximately B2+ or C1 level and want to reach or consolidate advanced English. It suits professionals who use English at work and want to use it with greater precision; international students who want to reach C1 before returning home; and motivated adult learners who want a more personal and intensive alternative to a large language school. Every student takes a short level check before starting — not to screen them out, but to confirm that the programme is genuinely right for them.
