Advanced English for Professionals in London

If you use English in your professional life — in meetings, presentations, negotiations, written communication or international contexts — you already know what the gap looks like. The language is there, but it doesn't always work the way you need it to. A word doesn't come. A sentence sounds formal when you want it to sound natural. A presentation lands less clearly than the idea behind it. ELIC's advanced English programme for professionals in Central London addresses exactly this: the specific communication demands of professional life, at B2+ and C1 level, in a small group of advanced learners with similarly demanding communication goals.

The programme

What the programme develops — in professional contexts

Professional English is not a separate skill from advanced English — it is advanced English applied in specific, high-stakes contexts. The programme works on the full range of communication skills, with professional situations as the primary frame of reference.

01

Presentations and public speaking

Structure, clarity, signposting and delivery — in English that sounds authoritative and natural. Students work with real presentation material and receive specific feedback on language, not just delivery.

02

Meetings and professional discussion

Participating actively, agreeing and disagreeing diplomatically, asking for clarification, summarising and leading — the specific skills that determine how you are perceived in English-speaking professional environments.

03

Vocabulary and register

Formal and informal English, technical versus general vocabulary, when to use each. Professional communication requires precise control of register that most courses never address.

04

Written professional communication

Emails, reports and professional correspondence — clarity, concision and appropriate register. Work on real professional texts rather than generic exercises.

05

Interviews and high-stakes communication

For professionals preparing for interviews, negotiations or important presentations — structured practice in the specific language demands of high-pressure situations.

Small groups

Why small groups work better for professional learners

In a group of ten, every professional speaks extensively every day. The teacher knows each student's professional context, goals and specific language patterns from day one — feedback is targeted and cumulative, not generic. Other students in the room are working at the same level in similar professional contexts: the peer environment is itself a source of learning.
